HAWAII, November 16, 2022, OPPO
announced a partnership with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. in ray tracing
graphics for mobile devices today on stage at the Snapdragon Summit 2022. Since
the early stages of developing the next generation of drivers, the two firms
have been working together. Thanks to the tremendous work, when the flagship
Snapdragon® 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform is released, customers will benefit from a
fully optimized hardware-based ray tracing functionality. At the Snapdragon
Summit, OPPO also showcased the innovations made possible by its partnerships
with Qualcomm Technologies and Google, including the first Smartphone
implementation of Google NAS (Google Vertex AI Neural Architecture Search). The
new approach will improve the latency and energy efficiency of mobile devices'
AI processing.
The
newest premium Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform has just been released, and
OPPO, a long-time partner of Qualcomm Technologies, has also announced that it
will be used in its upcoming Find X flagship devices. This will significantly
improve the video, gaming, and connectivity experiences for mobile users all
over the world.
Pete
Lau, Senior Vice President and Chief Product Officer of OPPO, said: "The
cooperation between Qualcomm Technologies and OPPO has reached a new stage.
We've worked together to do research in a variety of cutting-edge technology
areas that will help develop and implement revolutionary mobile technologies.
By combining OPPO's extensive expertise in mobile graphics and AI with the
formidable capabilities of the new flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Qualcomm
Technologies and OPPO have made a breakthrough in mobile ray tracing technology
and the first-ever delivered Google NAS to smartphones. We look forward to growing
our cooperation with Qualcomm Technologies as we reinvent the Smartphone
experience and put more cutting-edge technology in the hands of millions of
consumers across the world."
Ziad
Asghar, Vice President of Product Management at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.,
expressed his excitement about working with OPPO to offer hardware-accelerated
ray tracing to mobile gaming. The partnership between Qualcomm Technologies and
OPPO in this area enables game developers to fully exploit desktop-level quality
ray tracing to provide the highest visual fidelity, lifelike aliasing free
shadows, reflections on curved surfaces, and global illumination to unlock the
next-generation gaming experience on mobile, all in real-time at usable frame
rate. This huge development for the mobile gaming environment, which spans the
full render stack, is made possible by the partnership. We are eager to work
with OPPO more closely as we explore the potential for innovation to reach
mobile devices using top-tier Snapdragon processors.
Through
underlying technological improvements, OPPO and Qualcomm Technologies bring
innovations in mobile graphics processing and artificial intelligence.
In order
to execute software improvements based on the latest generation Snapdragon 8
Gen 2 Mobile Platform, OPPO has partnered with Qualcomm Technologies. OPPO is
the first Smartphone maker to offer an open-sourced ray tracing solution for
mobile. These improvements make it possible for mobile devices to run
complicated, expansive gaming sceneries using OPPO's ray tracing technology.
Ray
tracing technology was made available to attendees of the Snapdragon Summit
2022 via live gaming demos, making OPPO the only Smartphone maker to show off
such technology on devices using the premium Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile
Platform.
Top
mobile games are capable of running at a constant 60 frames per second while
delivering lifelike soft shadows and reflections for the best possible visual
realism when playing on a Smartphone with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform
with numerous ray tracing effects enabled. Ray tracing render efficiency rose
by a factor of 5 in comparison to earlier software-only generations, and the
CPU burden was decreased by 90%1. With the help of these developments, the
mobile gaming industry will be able to move away from the reliance on software
simulation to produce ray tracing effects and instead provide cutting-edge,
ultra-realistic lighting to intricate, large-scale game sceneries on mobile
devices.
In order
to use ray tracing technology on mobile devices, OPPO was the first Smartphone
maker to do so. With the introduction of the PhysRay SDK, OPPO's first
open-sourced ray tracing solution for mobile devices, the company has been
establishing an open environment around the technology since 2020. This
ecosystem connects creators, game developers, and platforms for game engine
development. OPPO has worked to modify the PhysRay engine for improved
compatibility with various hardware and software combinations in order to
better meet the diverse demands of developers.
When
implementing ray tracing on mobile devices, the Open, Convenient, Adaptive, and
Balance ray tracing solution serves as a crucial link between hardware and
software.
Along
with collaborating on mobile ray tracing technologies, OPPO has been
collaborating with Qualcomm Technologies and Google to advance mobile devices'
potential AI capabilities. In accordance with the partnership, OPPO has for the
first time successfully incorporated the hardware power reward into Google NAS.
OPPO's use of AI delivers a 27% decrease in the power of the target identification
algorithm and a 40% reduction in computation latency through modifications to
the AI algorithms based on the unique chip characteristics. Together, these
advancements will speed up the training of AI models while enhancing their
hardware compatibility and energy efficiency2.
OPPO and
Qualcomm Technology are working together on "Inspiration Ahead" to
incorporate more cutting-edge technology into mobile handsets.
As part of their ongoing relationship, OPPO and Qualcomm Technologies are working on ray tracing technology and artificial intelligence. Numerous OPPO smartphones use premier Snapdragon mobile platforms, allowing more users across the world to enjoy 5G mobile. One of the first smartphones to employ the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU in 2022 was the premium OPPO Find X5 Pro, which provided previously unheard-of connectivity, AI, gaming, video, audio, and security experiences. Only two of the many smartphones that OPPO has previously created that employ Snapdragon 5G mobile platforms are the Find X3 Series and Reno6 Series.
In order
to give customers across the world better experiences with cutting-edge
technology on mobile devices, OPPO will keep working openly with industry
leaders like Qualcomm Technologies under its brand promise of "Inspiration
Ahead."
